One of the last decade's most influential men's designers, Hedi Slimane has just released an anthology of his photography. As a man who defined the skinny look of the last decade in fashion houses such as YSL and Christian Dior no one seems to be in a better position to have documented the time. After a meteoric rise in 1996 when Yves Saint Laurent found the unknown 28 year old and made him their cheif designer; his linear and uncompromisingly slender tailoring came to the fore with a new wave of rock n' roll bands in the middle of the last decade. He came to define the look of a new kind of male; artistic and lithe. He retired from fashion in 2007 at his peak to persue his passion for photography. He has shot a wide spectrum of subjects, from punks on the streets of Berlin to Robert Pattinson. He has had many high profile exibitions and several books published. This anthology is a selection of his favourite shots from 2000 when he was still working in the fashion industry right through his photographic career to the present day. Amid rumours that he will be replacing John Galliano at Dior, it's good to be given a chance to see the last decade of fashion and faces through the lense of a man who was so much a part of it.

Pennie Smith.
Pennie Smith is probably the greatest music photographer of all time. Most of her work is shot in black and white. Her first major photographic commission was to photograph Led Zeppelin's 1970's tour for NME magazine. Since then she has photographed some of the biggest names in rock music and taken some of it's most iconic shots. Her shot of Clash bassist Paul Simonon smashing his bass in New York in 1979 became the cover of the bands album London Calling and in 2002 was voted the greatest rock and roll photograph of all time by Q magazine. She is based in London and still works to this day. But enough of what I have to say, look at the photos.

Zadig and Voltaire Kill It.

The Kills shot by Olivier Zahm for Zadig & Voltaire's 10-11 Lookbook. A very cool band with a great sound and look. They are somewhat under the radar. But with a new album and accompanying tour on the way in April, now is the perfect time to get on board.

Electric Dylan

Some excellent images of Bob Dylan during his visit to England in the sixties. Just on the brink of going electric, he arrived in England and caused a stir with his new dark enigmatic look. This tour is documented in the film No Direction Home. It is said that Dylan at this time set the template for how a rock star should dress, especially the dark sunglasses. One reporter said "Even when he took them off it looked like he was still wearing them". A snapshot of an artist at his creative peak, very aware of the power of his image.
